Kiawah All-Girls Trip, 10.08 : My gal-pal Sue and I have known each other for more than 10 years. We were new grads from different schools who were hired and started working at the same facility within one week of each other. We used to go to lunch together at least once a week and eventually moved into the same neighborhood (actually, our backyards abut). We've helped each other transition through several ex-husbands and job changes. Having said that, more recent busy lives have kept us from getting together frequently (we've celebrated birthdays months afterward!). In the past 5 or 6 years, we have tried to attend our state's professional conference together, as it involves a trip to the beach. Having missed last year, we were determined to attend this year's event and go for the entire 5 days. We were also determined to make the most of it, since it is the last year our conference will be held on Kiawah Island (but that's actually good for me - the island is not motorcycle-friendly, and I like to ride to events like this).

Nevada, 1.05 : This trip was part of a "deal" associated with a time share that is no longer discussed. In any case, the trip was a fun opportunity to see a part of the country I hadn't visited. Once the decadent gilded opulence (read: 'tackiness') of Las Vegas proper become tiresome, there was plenty to explore in the surrounding area. Trips to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and Valley of Fire State Park, as well as the Hoover Dam, allowed me to marvel at nature's beauty and man's ingenuity, respectively. Some of the best aspects of the trip could not be captured by camera: the Cirque de Soleil shows did not allow photography. I've never said, "OMG!!" or "WOW!!" or "Holy $*#@!" more than I did watching those shows. The Blue Man and Celine Dion (hey, the tickets were given to me gratis) shows bookended the trip nicely.

Out West, 9.03 : Pictures collected from a month-long trip out West in an antique (read "break-down pending") BMW sidecar. These are just a few of the several dozen taken.

New York City, 2.03 : It all started when I heard about the off-Broadway play called "The Exonerated," a true narrative collection compiled from first-hand testimony, interviews, letters and court transcripts from six former Death Row inmates who were later found blameless of their crimes. I had to go see the play, and it was a great excuse to go to NYC.

Australia / New Zealand, 6.01-7.01 : At a national sidecar get-together I met Irv and Debbie Collins, a well-traveled couple from Ohio who were hosting a 3 1/2 week trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji in late June / early July, 2001. They invited me to tag along, and I jumped at the chance. Due to adverse political climate changes, the Fiji leg was cancelled, but that meant we were able to spend more time in the two other places. These pictures are just a small sample of where we went and what we saw.
